If veggies and ranch are a favorite snack, switch up your regular ranch with this 2-ingredient cottage cheese ranch dip for a high-protein alternative.

Is there anything cottage cheese can’t do? I’m not going to lie, cottage cheese wasn’t a staple in our kitchen until it started gaining popularity on tiktok and instagram. I’ve tried scrambled eggs, cottage cheese ice cream, and these 3-ingredient protein pancakes!

This simple 2-ingredient cottage cheese ranch dip was so simple to make and was the perfect addition to the healthy snack options we try to have on hand.

Why make this dip instead of just using ranch dressing? We think it’s worth taking the extra step to stock your fridge with this dip, as it’s higher in protein thanks to the cottage cheese and low in calories by comparison.

This high-protein dip is gluten-free, low-carb, and also higher in calcium than regular ranch dressing.

Ingredients for Cottage Cheese Ranch Dip

Use these simple and fresh ingredients packed with nutritional value to make this delicious cottage cheese dip recipe. Be sure to check the recipe card for the exact amounts of each ingredient you will need.

  • Cottage Cheese: Cottage cheese is used in place of sour cream to add creaminess to this dip. Use either whole or low-fat cottage cheese for this dip. Whole cottage cheese will make a thicker, creamier dip – but use the one that best aligns with your health goals. Look for one cultured cottage cheese with added gut-friendly probiotics – Good Culture cottage cheese is one of the most popular brands of cottage cheese.
  • Ranch Seasoning Blend: use store-bought salad dressing seasoning mix to add ranch flavor to this dip. Hidden Valley Ranch makes the most popular, but there are other brands like Trader Joe’s or Simply Organic as well. You can also make your own (it’s very simple!).

If you don’t have any ranch dressing seasoning, it’s very simple to make a batch of it at home with a few simple ingredients.

You’ll have extra dip seasoning left over so you can save it in a jar for a future batch of dip or use it on roasted vegetables or to make ranch dressing.

Homemade Ranch Seasoning:

  • 1 ½ tablespoons buttermilk powder, 1 ½ teaspoons dried parsley, 1 ½ teaspoons dried chives, 1 teaspoon granulated garlic powder, 1 teaspoon dried dill, ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • If you can’t find dry chives, substitute 1 teaspoon onion powder

Variations

I love the ranch seasoning in this whipped cream dip. However, you don’t have to make the recipe as written – you can add almost any spice or even some sauces you have in the pantry to them.

Here are some of my favorites:

  • Spices: Curry powder, Tajin, cayenne, Za’atar, taco seasoning, smoked paprika or chili powder
  • Sauces: BBQ sauce, buffalo sauce or chipotles in adobo sauce

How to Make Cottage Cheese Ranch Dip

This cottage cheese ranch dip is easy to throw together in just a few steps. You can use either a blender or a food processor to blend the dip.

  1. Add the cottage cheese to a blender or food processor with the ranch seasoning powder.
  2. Blend on high until smooth and creamy. (Add a tablespoon or two of water if needed to help blend. Some brands of cottage cheese are thicker than others.) Serve with fresh vegetables and/or whole-wheat crackers.

How to Serve Cottage Cheese Ranch Dip

There are so many great options for serving this creamy dip whether as an after-work or after-school snack, game day fuel, or as an appetizer. Here are some of our favorites:

  • Fresh vegetables: this dip pairs well with almost any fresh vegetable, try cucumber, bell pepper, celery, baby carrots, radish, peas or tomatoes.
  • Crackers, crisps or pretzels: use your favorite crunchy snack to scoop up bites of this delicious dip recipe. You can also use pita as a dipper.
  • Chicken: Serve this cottage cheese ranch dip instead of barbecue chicken or buffalo chicken ranch dressing. If you’re craving wings but want something healthier, serve this as a dip for our Buffalo Cauliflower Bites.
  • Wraps or sandwiches: The creamy texture of this ranch dip makes it a perfect choice as a creamy spread instead of mayonnaise on a wrap or sandwich.

Storage method

Store leftover cottage dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Can I use Greek yogurt instead of cottage cheese?

Yes, you can use Greek yogurt instead of cottage cheese. However, the cottage cheese version will be thicker and higher in protein than the yogurt version.

Can I use fresh herbs?

If you want to add more flavor and color to this dip, feel free to add some fresh chives or parsley to the cottage cheese before mixing.
