Are you dealing with chafing thighs, sweating breasts, blistered feet misery? It sounds like you may have a case of friction. This is basically when your skin and sweat combine to create an itchy, red rash that’s as fun as wearing thick woolen underwear on a hot day. Ouch!

Since breakouts can happen regardless of your age, body size, or gender, we thought we’d teach you some tips and tricks to help you feel fresh, great, and irritation-free all year round.

But first… a pop quiz: What part of the body does friction target?

Answer… almost everywhere.

Or to be more specific…

Thigh piercing – Also known as “gum chafing” for its tendency to appear between the inner thighs and usually occurs in the summer. A walk outside can turn into an uncomfortable walk if your thighs love each other too much.

Armpit piercing – This is where the sweat glands live and they love a good party. Too much boozing at the disco of life (or just plain physical activity) can lead to itchy, red armpits.

Bra-line Chafing – For those of us who wear bras, that tight elastic can often wage war against your skin, resulting in – you guessed it – chafing. A word to the wise, check your bra size regularly.

Nipple piercing – Looking at you, runners. High-intensity activities without the proper sports bra and protective clothing can result in rather painful chafing around the nose.

Stinging in the groin – This is where things get a little personal, let’s say. Tight underwear, sweat and friction create the perfect storm for the dreaded groin rub.

Foot piercing – The classic ‘new shoe blues’. That’s right, the wrong socks or a new pair of kicks can rub your feet the wrong way and leave you with some fiery feet.

Back Chafing – If you’ve ever worn a heavy backpack and ended up with a raw patch where the straps rubbed, you’ve experienced this version of chafing.

So, as you can see, chafing is caused by repeated rubbing, moisture (especially sweat) and uncomfortable clothing. Your skin does NOT enjoy friction.

Here’s what you can do when that burning, irritating sensation occurs

Stay dry

Excess moisture makes swelling worse. Throw an absorbent cloth or some eco-friendly face wipes in your bag to wipe moisture from your skin throughout the day.

Choose better fabrics

Loose clothing and moisture-wicking fabrics (like bamboo) are your skin’s BFFs when it comes to eliminating chafing and breakouts. For friends who sweat under the breasts, try a bra sweat liner to keep them dry and happy.

Embrace Bike Shorts

The cycling shorts cleverly create a shield against annoying chafing (aka thigh rub) by creating a natural barrier between the skin between your legs. The downside, of course, is that on those super hot days, they can feel a bit uncomfortable. If this is the case, try using thigh chafing shorts that will do the same thing as bike shorts but just go over your thighs instead of being a full pair of shorts.

Create some slippage

When we talk about sliding, we’re not talking about ice skating (although that would be kind of fun!). We’re talking about applying a lubricant to your skin to create a smooth, slippery barrier and prevent skin chafing and the discomfort that comes with it.

Enter: Woohoo All-Natural Deodorant that doubles as the perfect Anti-Chafe Stick to soften, soothe and protect skin when you need it most.

Shea butter and fractionated coconut oil along with natural vegan wax (ketearyl alcohol – the good kind of alcohol, not the bad kind) provide a soothing, non-greasy shield.

And our Woohoo sticks have deodorant ingredients to keep you smelling fresh and natural absorbent powders will help reduce that ‘wet’ sweat feeling.

Swipe anywhere and everywhere you feel a rash breaking out to eliminate friction and create an effective skin-to-skin glide (but avoid tight areas).

Keep the areas prone to wear and tear washed and dry every day, paying particular attention to making sure the skin folds are dry. If you’re experiencing irritation, it’s a good idea to try a little extra hydration in the area.

To help repair moisture and barriers for crazy skin, give it a try “Bestie” solid body moisturizer.. Our solid body moisturisers are a delightful combination of vegetable oils and butters, leaving your skin soft, nourished and protected.
