Emma Saville is passionate about helping women feel supported and special throughout their pregnancy and birth journey. With retraining in psychodynamic counselling, she was introduced to hypnotherapy and is now a proud member of the Hypnobirthing Association. With the increased knowledge she absorbed, along with a desire to learn more about the mind and body, she began her mission to support women and their birth partners towards a positive and empowering birth, resulting in less trauma for mothers and the happiest children. Here Emma talks to The Natural Parent magazine about the inspiration behind it Ellivase Hypnobirthingthe challenges she has overcome along the way and her hopes and dreams for the future.

The passion: What inspired you to create your business?

Working in a job that no longer served me, having raised my daughter as a single parent and coming to the end of university, I asked myself – now what? I recognized that I had lost my direction and that it was time for a change. As a result, my inspiration came from finding my “purpose”. I never thought for a moment that choosing to retrain in psychodynamic counseling so I could help people would result in me finding my purpose and how that would inspire me to start my business!

Hypnotherapy was mandatory for the first year as it is a useful counseling tool. From this, I was completely captivated by the power of the conscious and subconscious mind and how our thinking has a remarkable impact on the way we live every day. About halfway through the first year, we touched on hypnobirthing and it made perfect sense that if we change the way we think, we can change our birth experience – what a transformative experience – no wonder hypnobirthing is becoming so popular! Now entering my second year, I couldn’t let go of what a powerful tool hypnobirthing is and how it has proven, and continues to completely change the way women see and give birth, as well as recognizing the vital role of childbirth. partner.

Admiring my mum’s career as a nurse, working in the SCBU (Special Baby Care Unit) and my grandmother’s career as a midwife, I felt that walking in their footsteps in caring for and supporting women would be an honour. I qualified with Katharine Graves, founder of KGHypnobirthing in the UK – the only Royal College of Midwives accredited training in hypnobirthing – and became a member of the Hypnobirthing Association. My passion and mission grew with increased knowledge I absorbed and a thirst to learn more about the mind and body, which later led to a business that not only helps women and birth partners but also the baby them, resulting in less trauma for mom-to-be and happier children.

The launch: How did you get started in the first place?

I started in the fall – a time that allows me to reflect and let go of what no longer serves me. As a nation, we were slowly returning to face-to-face meetings after the global COVID-19 pandemic, yet virtual preferences continued to be quite strong. Through social media and word of mouth, couples signed up with me initially for an online class, later moving to face-to-face. Given the national shortage of midwives, the NHS stopping commissioning NCT parenting courses and moving to offering online parenting courses, notable trends are now moving towards an increase in face-to-face classes. To allow for choice, I have expanded and offer group courses throughout the year in Oxford, as well as private and online courses. As an added bonus to my group classes, I offer a social at the end where I invite other birth professionals, both pre and postnatal, which is extremely helpful for couples to think hard about what is right for them. fourth quarter.

Innovation: What has been the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?

It has to be the many faces with “wow!” expressions, the many shoulders dropping in sheer relief and relaxation, and the testimonials received from couples about how energized they felt before and after giving birth as they welcomed their baby. These discoveries perfectly sum up the reason for what I do, the foundation of my purpose, and my drive to be the best prenatal and hypnobirther I can be. I would like to take a minute here to thank all my ladies, the couples who have trusted me to support them on their journey to meet their baby and everyone I meet in the future. Additionally, thank you to those in the photos who have shared such incredible memories.

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

While I love spending time with my daughter, she is now 26 and busy exploring the world and settling into her adult life. As a single parent, my “need” is less, which presents many opportunities at my fingertips to explore. From my training and extensive experience as an Executive Assistant, I am extremely well organized and able to balance work and life well. When I’m not supporting couples in prenatal and hypnobirthing, I’m further educating myself on options for women in pregnancy and birth and/or researching for a couple, hosting various events to support women and their partners, and welcoming my own endorphins to gym.
