The benefits of massage
A massage may seem like a simple indulgence (and it is, which is why you should definitely treat yourself to one), but it’s one that comes with physiological and psychological benefits that you’ll feel long after it’s over. Research shows that this is especially true when you make massages a regular part of your routine. At Healthworks, our licensed massage therapists can address any specific areas of concern during your treatment and work with any medical practitioner to further support your needs. Here are the types of massages we offer and the different ways each of them can help you move and feel better throughout your journey with us.
Restorative Massage
We call this tried and true. Depending on what you need during your session, our restorative massage can range from focusing on relaxation to deep tissue work. We recommend it after a hard workout or a long day as it promotes blood and lymph circulation and speeds up the body’s recovery process leaving you refreshed and ready for whatever comes next.
Massage with hot stones
This is best for people who need the deeper relaxation of the heated stones that are central to this type of massage. During the 80-minute session, our therapist will move the smooth, flat volcanic stones to specific points on your body to reduce muscle tension, improve blood flow, relieve pain, promote relaxation and to relieve stress.
Reflexology
This type of massage is guided by the theory that stimulating nerve reflex points in various parts of the feet and hands can balance all body systems. A 25 or 50 minute session with one of our therapists can promote relaxation, reduce pain and fatigue, improve sleep, reduce stress and improve mood. Reflexology can also be a great option for people who are uncomfortable with being touched on the whole body.
Thai massage
This ancient form of bodywork combines passive stretching, compression and acupuncture to improve the flow of energy throughout the body. Our custom treatments are performed on floor futons while clients are dressed in loose, comfortable clothing. Benefits include relief from headaches and joint stiffness, reduced back pain, and increased flexibility and range of motion.
Lymphatic detoxification
This is a gentle yet deeply relaxing form of massage that focuses on stimulating the immune system to enhance lymph flow, which removes toxins from the body. Our 25 minute session focuses on the upper body, while our 50 minute session is a full body experience. Lymphatic detoxification has been shown to benefit people with conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic venous insufficiency and lipedema.
Myofascial
This type of treatment involves applying slow, gentle and sustained pressure to the myofascial tissues that connect muscles, joints and bones with the aim of improving range of motion and circulation, reducing pain, increasing the body’s natural recovery process and providing stress relief.
Suction cup
This ancient form of alternative medicine is updated with silicone cups that create negative pressure to achieve results similar to a deep tissue massage. Benefits include improved blood and lymph circulation, increased range of motion and reduced muscle tension. We also offer 25-minute facial cupping sessions, which gently lift the tissue to stimulate blood flow, which leaves your skin looking firmer and brighter.
Heather
The term is derived from the Japanese word ‘rei’, meaning universal, and ‘ki’, which refers to the vital life force energy that flows through all living things. Our therapists use gentle touch to energize your body, improving your energy flow and balance to encourage tissue and bone healing, boost the immune system, reduce muscle tension, reduce pain and bring about a meditative state that promotes relaxation. We recommend 50 or 80 minute sessions for maximum results.
Prenatal Massage
Pregnancy can be a joyful experience, but it can also take a physical and mental toll on the mom-to-be. Our trained therapists are here to help treat the many common discomforts associated with all the changes that come with the hormonal changes of pregnancy, including back and leg pain and joint swelling. A prenatal massage can also improve circulation, reduce stress, improve mood and ease insomnia.
