If you are struggling with decoration or layout for your bedroom, here is 15+ great ideas to make your creativity flow.
From our renovation, we are lucky to have a very large primary bedroom. Our bedroom covers the entire attic of the house, which ended in 2014 (with a fireplace in the middle!). When we renovated in 2023, we hit the roof from the house (literally – it was outdoor) and created the bedroom of our dreams, with rows of windows where it was once just a dark ceiling wall. (See all before and after here!)
Before
After
In fact, I was on the verge of selling our dark pieces and pieces when our bedroom was also super dark (side note, I bought them from the world market in 2007 for $ 800 – a fraction of its costs Collection of rural pottery Look after you!). A friend of mine interior designer told me not to sell them, but to paint the walls instead. And since our whole house now has white walls, it is much brighter and the furniture looks great.

When it comes to bedroom design, I like a bright and airy look with all the new natural light. However, with so much space to play, there is definitely room to add some more decoration. The design and personalization capabilities feel endless. It may also feel a little overwhelming to connect all your ideas together to a coherent and hospitable look.
In this post, I share a round up-up that inspires great bedroom decoration ideas to help you turn your space into an elegant and functional shelter.
15+ Great Primary Bedroom Ideas
Color shape
We went with a black and white color palette for the canvas of our entire home, so we can add color as it feels seasonal and comfortable. All of our house is painted in Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace. I would rather experiment with pillows and quilt cover and then color containers! I am very indecisive and change my mind too much to commit to a color on the walls.
When I use color, I tend to use modern coastal colors. Here’s a bunch Inspo bedrooms in this palette! I like the appearance of a bedroom when I stay in one! See this blog post with 33 Moody Bedrooms.
Ideas for bed
Sheets
On the coastal theme, I like the blue and white watercolor quilt and the false from Pottery Barn. Our quilt no longer sells (I got it on sale) but This from West ELM is similar.
We also have our darkest bed for a look, which I often put in winter (especially because it is heavier).
Headboard
As the focus of the room, the bed sets the tone! Whether you have a wooden bed of four missions or a softer tufted head (I had both!), The bed can affect the mood.
I love ours Raleigh upholstered bed That I had for over a decade (almost not survived a bad renovation after stains, but fortunately it has faded very much now). If you are in a stricter budget, you can make a metal bed with a headboard and a bed skirt that will be less expensive than a full bed.
Living room ideas
Benches
A bench at the foot of the bed is beautiful and practical! I have discussed getting one for a while. This woven bench From Target is an excellent price for a coastal look. A storage bench It’s a great way to store extra covers and leaves, which we store today at the hairdresser opposite our bed. LOVE this gold framed For a very elegant look! And This composite fabric and metal It is ideal for a modern atmosphere.
Sun loungers or oversized arm chairs
I think for reading, and if you have the space, a lounge sun loungers are perfect. We got almost one for under our windows, but I put the wooden office there and we’re happy with having a arm chair in the corner. Of course, I don’t read it often, but I sit on it when boys fight after a bath or I need private breathing from noise. The corresponding is in our living room.
LOVE This green velvet But I’m not sure I’ll put it in my own bedroom. This black It will match our theme well! I feel that a sun loungers or a chair is a great place to be a little bold! This doubles as a day bed.
Area blankets
Even if you have wall -to -wall carpet, you can add a carpet of the area! This is another way to make the decor and make a statement without taking a huge risk to the walls. We have really loose rugs, so a carpet in the area is not on my design list, but my sister has wooden floors in her bedroom and their carpet is so comfortable. It’s an investment but I really think Serena and Lily It makes some of the best carpets. And because it’s a bedroom and lower circulation for children and food, you don’t have to worry about leaks (maybe pets though!).
Lighting ideas
Night lamps
I like to look at lamps. The little gold couple I have is from Target! I like that they have a lower profile and we have connected them to Alexa plugs so that we can activate them and turn off with our voices and a program.
Some other entertainment lamp ideas:
Pendant lights
A pendant light can be a appearance cap if the space invites you for one. We have indentation lighting (and in my other homes I had a single light. A flame support We have in our bathroom operates with lower ceilings and a chandelier at sea It would be my choice if we had the room for one!
Walls
We thought about putting on walls when we made our electrical design. In the end, we wanted the flexibility to be able to move the bed (though now that we move, I know it won’t happen!). If you have plugs next to your bed, you can make plug-in sconces like this sea! West Elm It also has a number of modern and unique wall sciences.
Wall Decoration Ideas
And finally – the easiest way to decorate a primary bedroom is on the walls! Our walls have had some more additions since the above renovation photos were taken.
Here are some ideas:
Gallery
A gallery wall is a great way to present many smaller photos, memories and more. I like the appearance of cohesive frames and mixing colors by the photos themselves. These are my favorite frames from Amazon. I have them black and wood.
Large pieces of statement
My favorite place to buy the art of statement is Lindsay letters. We have two of her pieces in our home (birch in Birch’s room and a botanical printing in the living room). I would love to add one to our bedroom (opposite the bed), but we still have a “TV TV” conversation and we can end up on a frame TV!
Windows
Blind and shades
I am obsessed with our electric blinds. They open and close on the timetable and I can check them from an application or remote control. It was a total figure, but I have zero regret! Our windows are much more blind friendly, since they don’t go so far and there are so many. I also love the appearance of natural blind wood or shades of woven material for coastal appearance. Natural materials can add warmth to one space.
Curtains
Floor -to -roof curtains have a very romantic look. Our hotel room at home had gorgeous curtains similar to theseAnd I have used them in past bedrooms. Curtains are also a lower risk way to use a truly bold fabric (though you know I would go with the neutral appearance). I think you get what you pay with curtains, so this is an area that I would go with a quality. I love it Belgian In Pottery Barn.
You can see our white electronic shades when they are up.
