Valor is a Young Living essential oil blend designed to bring balance and alignment to your emotions. It is grounding and inspires feelings of courage and confidence. Valor is a truly unique blend of black spruce, frankincense, blue tansy and rosewood. Valor can be applied topically, diffused and even used as a perfume or cologne! In this post I share a recipe to make your own Valor mix. This essential oil blend recipe takes minutes to make and I’ve included a roll-on recipe for on-the-go!

As an avid essential oil user, I diffuse daily. I like to simply diffuse lavender but I also love to make my own blends. I started my essential oil journey at Young Living and have loved many of their blends. Once I got further into my essential oil journey, I moved on from YL due to having to buy monthly, slow shipping times, and the high cost of each oil. While many essential oil companies have copied YL’s famous blends, being the DIYer that I am, I like to make them myself. Also, I am not familiar with Valor blend being available from other companies.

What is Valor Essential Oil Blend?

Valor is a wonderful blend of essential oils meant to inspire confidence and can be helpful in aligning the chakras. Black spruce, blue tansy, frankincense and rosewood are an aromatic blend that combine for a sweet herbaceous scent perfect for diffusing. Courage has been called “liquid courage” because it is said to give you courage and bravery when applied or inhaled. Valor is a very gentle blend of oils and can be applied to the most sensitive skin. Many people believe in the power of this blend of essential oils and love the scent so much that they wear it as perfume or cologne. I will say, valor is a strong scent and lasts most of the day.

According to Young Living:

Originally formulated by Young Living founder D. Gary Young, the Valor blend is an old-time member favorite. Its unique formula was inspired by historical texts about Roman soldiers who were said to apply herbal extracts and botanicals to inspire courage and confidence before going into battle.

Each Young Living essential oil in the blend was carefully selected for its unique aromatic and topical benefits: Frankincense for its uplifting, earthy aroma and skin-loving properties; Black Spruce for its earthy, woody aroma. Blue Tansy for its inspiring aromatic profile. and now Rosewood for its soothing and relaxing scent.

Cost per bottle breakdown:

Valor retails for $58.55 at Young Living website. On Amazon you can buy Valor for $64.41. I base this recipe on Phytotherapy prices. Each bottle of homemade Valor will set you back about $13.20. You’ll only be able to make 2 bottles of Valor if you buy the 2.5ml bottle I’ve linked, but you’ll have plenty of product from the other ingredients for other projects.

A note about rose essential oil: I happened to have a very old bottle of Rosewood from Spark Naturals. However, none of my essential oil companies of choice now offer rosewood. I believe it is difficult to source. At some point, Young Living could no longer find a sustainable source and switched from rosewood to geranium. I read that ho wood essential oil is a suitable substitute for rosewood. I found some cheap rosewood options on Amazon, but I recommend going with a higher quality ho wood essential oil.

  • 10 ml Black Erythralite: $11.99
  • 10ml Frankincense: $9.49
  • 2.5ml Blue Tansy: $16.99
  • 10ml Ho Wood: $10.99
  • 16 oz. Fractionated Coconut Oil: $9.99
  • 10 5ml glass bottle: $8.99
  • TOTAL Cost of ingredients: $68.44
  • Cost per bottle of DIY Valor: $13.22

There are 160 drops in 10ml and there are 30 drops in 2.5ml

How many bottles of Valor can you make from each essential oil?

  • Black Erythralite: 5
  • Frankincense :11
  • Blue tansy: 2
  • Ho Wood: 40

Making your own Valor essential oil blend is quite affordable!! If you want to make more than 5 bottles of Valor or want to make a larger quantity for yourself, Plant Therapy has 5ml Blue Tansy Oil for $25.99 and a 10ml for $37.99.

I love the scent of this Valor essential oil blend recipe and now that I’ve made the roll my husband has it in his car. Not all of his Young Living dupes are affordable, but Valor certainly is. Let me know if you make it and how you use it!

xx, Jenny
