Welcome back to 2026, No Shoes Nutrition family!

Author: Megan Xipolitos

If January had a smell, it would be a combination of fresh designers, cozy socks… and the faint panic of, “Would I have to reinvent my entire life by Tuesday?” The need to reset and restart is strong and can even cause constipation and overexertion in some. We hope we can help you do things differently this year!

Let’s skip the chaos and do something smarter: listen to your body. A “reset” shouldn’t feel like punishment – it should feel like support. Here it is five signs that your body is waving a little white flag and could use a gentle, nourishing reboot.

Friendly note: This blog is educational, not medical advice. If symptoms are persistent, severe, or new, contact your healthcare provider.

1) You are tired… Even after sleeping

It’s been a long 2025! It had its ups and downs, but both felt like they were draining energy and life right out of the cells! You know that kind of fatigue when coffee stops being a beverage and becomes a personality trait? If you’re still crawling after a decent night’s sleep, your body may be dealing with stress, inflammation, nutrient gaps, or a routine that no longer works.

Research shows Sleep deprivation is linked to increased markers of inflammation (hello crazy body and brain fog). And fatigue can have many contributing factors, such as stress, illness, low activity, poor quality diet, or something medical worth checking out.

Mini reset step:
Choose ONE:

  • 10-15 minutes before bedtime

  • Morning exposure to light (even if it’s dark Calgary winter light)

  • Protein at breakfast (or your first meal)

2) Your digestion feels “off” more often than not

The holidays were fun, but we may be dealing with the aftermath! Bloating, irregularity, heartburn or something like that “My stomach is mad but I don’t know why” The feeling can be a sign that your gut needs some TLC—especially after the holiday rhythm changes (more sugar, more snacks, less routine, fewer vegetables).

Resetting here is not about restrictions. It’s about reducing the load and increasing the supporting basics (fiber, hydration, fermented foods, and regular meals).

Mini reset step:
Add a gut support habit for 7 days:

  • A forkful of fermented food daily (sauerkraut, kimchi, kefir, yogurt – whatever works for you)

  • A “vegetable starter” in a meal (cucumber, carrots, salad, roasted vegetables)

3) Your cravings run the show (especially sugar)

If you feel “fine” by 3:00 p.m. and then suddenly you’re in a committed relationship with chocolate… You’re not broken. Cravings often occur when blood sugar is high, sleep is short, or stress is high. Remember, as fun as the holiday season is, it can be stressful on the body!

Mayo Clinic notes that stress hormones can raise blood sugarand lifestyle patterns play a large role in glucose variability.

Mini reset step:
Build your plate around PFF: Protein + Fat + Fiber.
This is one of the easiest ways to calm the cravings without getting tired in January.

4) Your mood is upbeat, anxious, or “Meh”

If your patience is thin, your motivation is lacking or you feel strange wired but tired, your nervous system may be calling for support. Chronic stress doesn’t just affect your mind—it can affect many body systems.

The Mayo Clinic emphasizes that Constant stress can disrupt body processes and increase the risk for health problems over time. And when sleep suffers, inflammation and mood can take a hit, too.

Mini reset step:
Try a 3 minute “shift down” once a day:

  • 6 slow breaths (longer exhalation than inhalation)

  • a short walk

  • hum (yes, really – love for the vagus nerve)

5) You live on convenience foods (and your body knows it)

If your meals have become mostly grab-and-go, your body may not be getting the consistent intake of nutrients it needs to feel energized, rested, and metabolically supported.

Link to great reviews higher intake of highly processed food with greater risk of cardiometabolic and other adverse health outcomes. It’s not about perfection, it’s about noticing when your baseline has deviated and choosing a more supportive default.

Mini reset step:
Choose a meal a day to become “real food”.
Even a roast chicken + bagged salad + olive oil + lemon counts. We love a realistic win.

What a “Reset” really means at No Shoes Nutrition

A real reset is not a cleanse that makes you miserable. It is one back to basics that help your body do what it already knows how to do: regulate energy, digestion, cravings, mood and inflammation.

Think:
✅ hydration
✅ Balanced meals
✅ Gut support
✅ sleep rhythm
✅ Care of the nervous system
✅ Less highly processed “extras”, more nutrient dense “anchors”
