Bedroom athletes, we salute you. We have teamed up with our friends and fellow Sainsburys, Phizz, to explore how to boost your sex life this summer. Our love affair with hydration heroes began with our Co-Founder Dr. Sarah Welsh. Last year our resident Sporty Spice started the Half Iron Man in Nice (for the uninitiated, that’s a 2km sea swim followed by a 90km cycle up to 1500m and a tasty little half marathon at the end… all in 30 degree heat) . A key part of her training? Phizz – and no, we’re not getting paid to say this.
With dating season in full swing and our DMs pinging, Dr Sarah and the Phizz team share their tips for getting better at getting it…
HOW TO HAVE BETTER SEX
KEEP GOING
Building stamina is key to improving your sex life. Think of it this way: if you’re trying to hit Pornhub’s level without a warm-up, you’re doing it wrong from the start. To Dr. Sarah:
“Regular exercise can improve your overall cardiovascular health, as well as your endurance. Couch to 5k is a great place to start or take group classes at your local gym. You don’t have to become a gym bunny if that’s not your thing, but making sure you get 30 minutes of exercise a day can be a big help. A walk in the park, a Yoga session on Youtube or weights in your bedroom count!”
WE DRINK
Raven Smith’s Hilarious Meme he said it best. If you’re planning on squirming but only fueling yourself with half a cup of white oatmeal and a prayer, you’re probably not going to be in good shape in the bedroom/bathroom/gender position insert. Don’t underestimate the effect of dehydration on your mental and physical health. Phizz explains:
“The average person drinks just 1.7 liters a day – well below the recommended 2.5 liters (for men) and 2 liters (for women). As little as 1% dehydration can lead to fatigue, headaches, muscle cramps and loss of concentration.”
All huge mood killers – let alone restricted blood flow to the genitals, which can cause vaginal dryness and difficulty maintaining an erection.
How to treat dehydration:
-
Drink fluids regularly throughout the day.
Water and diluted squash are great choices, especially if you alternate them with coffee and tea. -
Give yourself a hand (oo-er).
Phizz creates essential pieces of everyday life armor and their innovative products are science-based and designed to simplify wellness. Our signature science-backed effervescent tablets combine multivitamins, rehydration and electrolytes, all in one convenient tablet. Rub with water either as a daily supplement, or when you need a burst of energy. Side note: we’re big fans of an apple and gooseberry flavored Phizz dropped into cold sparkling water the morning after a night out – and it’s our secret weapon in goody bags at summer/Christmas/just HANX team parties. (You are welcome). Well, if it’s good enough for professional sports clubs, including Saracens… -
Use a water-based lubricant.
Especially important if you have sex with/are someone with a vulva: be sure to avoid friction-related irritation by using lube. Our ultra-gentle water-based formula matches your body’s pH to prevent yeast infections, soothe discomfort and prevent tearing of sensitive skin. Add a pump or two to your condom, hand, or straight into your products to keep things moving and add much-needed hydration.
CREATE A SEXY MEAL PLAN
What’s in your lunchbox can also have an impact on your sex drive. Dr Sarah happily recommends “eating the rainbow. Lots of colorful vegetables, nuts and seeds for an excellent source of vitamin E, along with whole grains for zinc and greens and grains for magnesium.”
Here are three sexy foods you might not realize have an effect on radiance:
- Dark Chocolate: Chocolate contains phenylethylamine, theobromine and serotonin, also known as the chemicals we release when we’re in love. Ditch the dairy milk and get a high cocoa bar.
- Cherries: this fruit has earned its reputation as an aphrodisiac because it stimulates the production of pheromone – a hormone that results in sexual attraction.
- Ginger: Fresh or ground, this spice stimulates blood circulation to improve arousal and sexual arousal, increasing sensitivity in erogenous zones.
In reality, most of us are not giving our bodies what they need. Phizz explains:
“Over 50% of people do not get the vitamins + minerals they need through their daily diet. Vitamins and minerals are needed to protect your immune system, convert energy into food and repair cell damage.”
If you’re struggling to hit 5 hours or need a little extra fizz, their effervescent tablets are designed to provide essential vitamins and minerals for natural energy, fatigue reduction, normal immune function and mental performance.
