laboratory technology exploitation hair sampleIt’s 2024 and you’ve waited long enough to feel better.

You’ve tried to find support for your lingering or mysterious symptoms through Western medicine only to find a push for more medication.

You’ve tried every supplement and your supplement graveyard is living proof that choosing supplements based on marketing and branding instead of your own health data was at best frustrating (at worst counterproductive to your health).

You had the discipline to eat all the right things, do the hard workouts, and get plenty of sleep, but the results you were looking for never came.

Is it possible that you are missing something and your efforts are misguided?

That’s what I help clients from all over the world discover with two simple sets of nutritional data.

The secret tests you need to optimize your health

Nutrient Blood Labs:

Blood nutrient labs are done through a traditional blood draw at your office or local Labcorp office (this is where I send my remote clients to get blood labs).

Necessary nutrient blood tests (most people have never had these tests except iron + ferritin):

  • plasma zinc (think liver detox, fertility, skin health, hormones)
  • serum copper (think mental health, poor detoxification, hormonal imbalances)
  • iron panel (think energy, fertility, liver health)
  • ferritin (think energy, fertility, liver health)
  • vitamin A/Retinol (think mysterious health issues, weight gain, poor detoxification, chronic skin issues, fatigue, gut issues)
  • whole blood histamine (indicates methylation status)

*must be THESE specific labs. Don’t let someone order you something similar (ie there are a few different labs for zinc, histamine, etc. make sure you get exactly what you ask for)!

Interpretation notes: of very important that whoever you choose to perform your blood work knows how to do it. This is because “standard lab ranges” are too long to detect imbalances such as copper overload, excess vitamin A, zinc deficiency, iron problems, and methylation imbalances. If you have someone reading your work and everything comes back in the “normal” standard lab range, you’re missing out on the data you need to know to make changes in your health.

Because of this, it is common for my clients to request these labs from their doctor so they can get insurance to pay (as long as the doctor visit and co-pay does not exceed the price of ordering the test through me) and then bring these results to a new client consultation. That way you can get the best of both worlds.

How to order: if you are within the US and do not reside in New York, Rhode Island or New Jersey, you can order them through me as an add-on to any consulting service for under $180. However, insurance does not cover nutritional therapy, so this will be out of pocket.

You are also free to take this list into your own *open minded doctor* and get these labs working for you. This way, your doctor can bill your insurance. However, most doctors won’t be too keen on running labs they don’t understand or know how to interpret, so don’t be surprised if you encounter some resistance. Also keep in mind that your doctor will not be able to properly interpret these labs for you unless they are trained in nutritional therapy and training in the specialty areas I discuss regularly on the blog.

Hair tissue mineral analysis (35 different mineral levels):

The hair mineral tissue analysis is a hair sample that you collect at home and mail in with the help of a simple test kit that I mail to you. It uses a very small amount of fresh hair growth (first inch) from the root of the head, usually in the mid-ponytail area (this is required to get “fresh” data). Hair from other parts of the body can be used if scalp hair is absent or unavailable, but please contact me for these specific details and instructions. Those who dye their hair are usually instructed to collect the sample just before their next dye to ensure the maximum amount of virgin hair in the sample.

The most important minerals we pay attention to in hair analysis:

  • calcium

  • magnesium

  • sodium

  • potassium

  • zinc

  • copper

  • selenium

  • molybdenum

  • heavy metals

  • and more!

Interpretation notes: of very important that whoever you choose to interpret your HTMA knows how to do it. There are many different “schools of thought” in the world of hair analysis, and your advice will vary greatly depending on which one you choose. Choose someone you trust, who is trained and who aligns with your approach to health. It is not uncommon for me to talk to people who have taken bad advice from the cheapest person they could find online to get a hair analysis and their health has paid the price.

How to order: Hair analysis is available for purchase from my office to clients worldwide, with the exception of those living in New York State. You can find package options here.

Traditional doctors won’t run hair analysis labs and will probably look sideways if you ask them about it (don’t say I didn’t warn you!). Some functional medicine doctors and naturopathic doctors may offer these services if they are trained in hair analysis and see the value of mineral data in their practice.

If you already have these results (they should be recent within the last 3-4 months) and do not need a new test, you can always bring them to a new client consultation and we can examine them together.

The significance of these test results *Together*

Having one of these datasets when working with a client is extremely valuable. When a client has both together, it’s a gift for me to be able to give them the best picture of their health and get the best results from our work together.

Find it Hair analysis consultation + blood labs package here.
