Here are 24 of the best single-serving soup recipes. You will find many easy, filling and super tasty soup recipes in this list. Make extra servings for even easier leftovers.

Soups make a great recipe for anyone, especially when these soups can be made in one pan and in 30 minutes. Not all of these single-serve soup recipes are the same, but they’re all easy and so comforting.

They can also be easily adjusted to make extra servings. In addition to grain-based soups, many will freeze well so you can make dinner for tonight and have leftovers.

Not only is the soup easy and comforting, it’s an easy recipe to add sides to make it more filling. Serve with some bread, a side dish or a sandwich. Adjust it to meet your current hunger levels.

Finally, like all of the single-serve soup recipes here, they are easily adaptable. Use ingredients you already have on hand, switch out vegetables as you like, and Google substitutions if you have questions. First, use what you have.

Cooking for One Tips

Here are some resources to make cooking for someone much easier:

In addition to general cooking tips, there are things to keep in mind when making single-serve soup recipes.

  • Serving sizes are a bit arbitrary. Save leftovers for lunch or a snack. You can add extra sides to make your soup or leftover soup more hearty and satisfying. Your appetite and food needs will likely change from day to day.
  • Make extra servings. Use the serving size slider on the recipe card to adjust these single serving soup recipes. Or search for soup recipes that make 4+ servings. There are a lot of them!
  • Save your leftovers. There are plenty of containers to store leftover soups, etc. I used to use small IKEA ice boxes and recently got some Super Cubes. Oh, they are so awesome. Flexible and lidded so they can be stacked in the freezer.
  • Like all recipes, customize them to work for you. Change the protein or vegetables to taste or use whatever you have on hand. Look for replacements online as well.

FAQ

What is a serving of soup?

Most people look at a serving to see how much they should eat. Unfortunately, many foods have different amounts listed on their serving size, so there is some confusion.

A serving can be two cups, but if you’re using this to decide how much to eat, listen to your own hunger/fullness cues to determine how much to eat. You may have leftovers or add sides for a hearty meal.

What can I use to serve the soup?

You can serve the soup in bowls of any size that can hold as much soup as you want. Use a ladle or a large spoon to remove it from the pot you cooked it in. You can also pour it from the pot into your bowl.

How to thicken soup

If you want your soup to be thicker, you can add a mashed/mixed potato, cornstarch, cream or a mixture of butter and flour. These are best for creamy soups. Stock-based soups are usually not thick.
