Frustrated woman with scaleIf you have ever wondered how to lose weight, I can assure you that you are in exactly the right place. Chances are, you’re reading this after tirelessly trying through unsustainable methods that may make you feel like a failure because you can’t stick to it. You really want to lose weight to get healthy, but your body just doesn’t seem to cooperate.

That’s because the yo-yo dieting approach never addresses the root reasons you’re not losing weight. And there are always reasons!

If you dig deeper than what you can visually see on the surface, which is usually weight, you’ll see a bunch of other things that usually go along with it, like…

  • gut imbalances and infections (bloating, constipation, indigestion, food sensitivities)
  • fatty acid imbalance (cellular inflammation)
  • stress on the liver and bile ducts
  • dysregulation of blood sugar
  • fatigue
  • stress (often chronic)
  • bad sleep
  • hormonal chaos
  • toxicity in your environment (home, relationships, work, family)
  • poor diet and nutritional deficiencies
  • mineral imbalances
  • depression
  • mental imbalance

What you resist will persist!

If you just focus on losing weight, you completely ignore everything that contributed and set the stage for the cycle of weight loss and regain to happen again and again because you never really thought about why the weight gain started in the first place…

It’s like painting and cleaning the exterior windows of your house 🧹🧼🧽 when your house is on fire 🔥🚒

You have to put out all your inner fires🔥 before you focus on outer aesthetics (ie your weight)!

The Cheat Codes (These Are The Things That Stop You From Losing Weight)

After working with hundreds and hundreds of clients around the world, the obstacles that prevent people from losing weight are abundantly clear. Be prepared to take some notes on the four MAIN issues:

Problem #1: Liver sluggishness and toxicity

Most of the excess weight is due to your liver being overworked for decades.

Don’t you think you might be overtaxing your liver? Review the following list and see if you need to reconsider:

  • supplements (may cause liver damage)
  • over the counter drugs (can cause liver damage)
  • Rx drugs (can cause liver damage)
  • excess nutrients (vitamin A, copper, and iron from excess “wellness culture” foods are big here)
  • alcohol
  • plant toxins (nightgowns are big here)
  • foods high in oxalic acid
  • herbal pills
  • heavy metals
  • Pesticides
  • additional hormones (something extra you take)
  • and so much more!

Did you know that “dilution is the solution to pollution”? That is, if your body is dealing with a toxic load because it is not able to remove waste quickly enough, adding extra body fat allows a safe place to “dilute” and store the extra toxins.

The first step to making that extra fat unnecessary is to start shedding your toxic weight. This starts with evaluating your diet and lifestyle.

And did you know that your gut and liver health are key ingredients to producing enough thyroid hormone (T3) to keep your metabolism functioning as it should? It’s not a thyroid issue, it’s a liver issue!

How to deal with it:

  1. Give your liver less work, which means giving your liver less supplements (read: 19 Supplements That Can Cause Liver Damage), alcohol, over-the-counter/Rx drugs, and trendy “wellness” foods. Your liver hates these things, especially when they pile on top of each other year after year.
  2. Address excess nutrients that are overtaxing your liver. This means you need to find out if nutrient toxicity is overwhelming your liver laboratory blood test (vitamin A, zinc, copper and iron). I can do this remotely with my US clients (except those in NY, NY and RI).
  3. Address nutrient deficiency (especially calcium, potassium, sodium, zinc and magnesium with hair tissue mineral analysis). I can do this remotely with my clients internationally.
  4. Drain your liver. And only after you’ve done all of the above, start draining your liver with the right fibers and binders for your body (but only if you can tolerate them, otherwise just focus on 1-3 and wait until the time is right).

Problem #2: Stress hormone imbalances

Did you know that your blood sugar balance, especially insulin resistance has a huge impact on your waistline?

How to deal with it: Focus on balancing blood sugar at each meal.

Problem #3: Protein deficiency

Your body needs the right balance of protein and nutrients to help your body function optimally enough to make weight loss a priority. Protein is also extremely important for supporting your liver (read problem #1 again).

How to deal with it: get strategic about your protein intake, especially the amino acids that support detoxification. You’ll want to read this blog post at least twice to get started on problem #3.

Problem #4: Digestive problems (especially bloating and constipation)

Did you know that the bacteria in your gut can predispose you to weight gain?

Conditions like estrogen dominance and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) can both encourage weight gain through your gut bacteria.

Certain types of gut bacteria produce beta-glucuronidase enzymes that can be reactivated (or uncoupled) estrogen that were already detoxified (conjugated) and on their way out of the body leading to estrogen dominance. Reducing the levels of bacteria that produce the enzyme beta-glucuronidase in your gut is key to breaking the cycle of estrogen recirculation, as well as estrogen’s effect on weight. [2]

Balancing your gut and supporting your digestion should be a top priority.

My favorite way to assess beta-glucuronidase levels as well as the gut microbiome is the GI Map test.

And since the liver/gallbladder helps regulate your gut, gut problems almost always come from the liver having “too much work to do” (back to #1).

How to deal with it: Begin to understand the gut-liver axis and what it takes. This may include GI chart testing, a 1-1 consultation or masterclass to clearly understand your next steps.
