So you struggle with redness, sting, breakouts and irritation, and wonder: Do I have sensitive or sensitive skin?

It’s a fair question and often, a confusion. We hear these terms that are thrown into the world of beauty, but what do they mean, really?

The two are really very different things and knowing what apply to you can change the way you are interested in your skin and how comfortable it looks and feels.

Let’s clarify the confusion and give you some practical ways to get your skin to calm down, regardless of the category you fall.

Sensitive or sensitive skin: What is sensitive skin?

Sensitive skin is usually something we are born with. They are in our genes. Just as some people have curly hair or are prone to allergies, others inherit the more reactive skin.

In general, sensitive skin tends to have a thinner protective barrier and more nerve endings near the surface. They are easily activated by things such as fragrance, rough fabrics, heat or even spicy foods. It often runs to families and can occur in parallel with conditions such as eczema, rosacea or fever.

If you have the skin that is easily rinsed from childhood or always have to be selective about skin care products, because most make it itching your skin or burns, your chances are your skin is inherently sensitive.

Sensitive or sensitive skin: What is sensitized skin?

How to take care of sensitive skin

If your skin is naturally sensitive, the goal is not to “correct” it, as you cannot change your skin type. Instead, think about how you can keep your skin comfortable, healthy and durable.
