How the Prenatal Homeless Program helps moms-to-be

We have officially started #SpreadTheGooda giving back initiative by The Spoiled Mama to support trusted non-profit organizations that care for pregnant women and postpartum families. Now, when you visit our online store for our toxin-free stretch mark solutions or breastfeeding essentials, you’re eligible to receive a $10 Mama Bucks coupon.

On Giving Tuesday, get 25% off sitewide and our profits will go directly to HPP.

You can donate your voucher to one of three reputable non-profit organizations: San Francisco Homeless Prenatal Program (HPP), Operation Showers of Appreciation for military momsor March of Dimes. Each organization supports expectant mothers and babies in a different way, so how does a mom choose where to give?

In the coming weeks, we’re highlighting the nonprofits your donations support, so you can feel confident about where your gift is going. The first organization we present is the Prenatal Homeless Programa longtime collaborator who is close to our hearts here at The Spoiled Mama.

The organizers and women of HPP hold a very special place in my heart and I know they will greatly appreciate YOUR Mama Bucks.

What is the Homeless Prenatal Program (HPP)?

The Homeless Prenatal Program is an award-winning family resource center based in The Spoiled Mama’s hometown of San Francisco. Since 1989, HPP has helped low-income and homeless families break the cycle of child poverty through case management, prenatal and parenting support, workforce training and more. Each year, HPP serves more than 3,500 families in the San Francisco Bay Area — and no one moves away. The only condition is that the family has a child 17 years old or younger.

How HPP helps moms and their families

Through its Wellness Center, HPP offers critical prenatal education and parenting classes to the waiting women. These moms are incredibly courageous—many are working to break free from poverty, drug addiction, and domestic abuse so they can build safer, healthier lives for their babies.

Your “Holy Moly” Event:

Since 1992, more than 3,500 babies have been born to HPP families. Of these children, 90.1% were normal weight and 98.5% were drug free.

HPP support does not stop at birth. The team also provides postpartum services, such as home visits to strengthen the parent-child bond, assessing basic household needs (such as food, clothing, furniture and baby supplies), assessing baby development, and helping families stay on track with medical appointments.

One of my favorite programs is the Diaper Bag Program — quarterly baby showers for moms who complete prenatal education classes. We were honored to attend a recent baby shower, and it was filled with inspiring, FUN Mamas.

The Spoiled Mama team fills bags with pregnancy-safe skin care donations

Here’s our Spoiled Mama team filling diaper bags full of goodies! Each mom-to-be received a Mini Spa Kit for skin care that is safe for pregnancy and beyond.

And it doesn’t end there. HPP’s Wellness Center also offers yoga, massage, acupuncture and doula (birth coaching) support — all focused on helping moms feel safer, supported and more confident as they welcome their babies.

Programs and services in the Prenatal Homeless Program for pregnant women and families

Why we love the prenatal program for the homeless

The Homeless Prenatal Program gives families—especially mothers motivated by pregnancy and parenthood—the tools to recognize their strengths and trust their ability to change their lives. Through HPP, Mamas can lean on each other, create lasting friendships, and build a community that uplifts everyone.

HPP is also the first firm in San Francisco to hire former clients as program and case managers. Because case managers share many of the same life experiences as the women they support, they are able to build deep trust, credibility and understanding with each family. Today, more than half of the HPP program staff are former clients or members of the communities they serve.

Healthy Babies Supported by the Homeless Prenatal Program

“How can I support HPP moms through #SpreadTheGood?”

If you receive a free $10 Mama Bucks coupon in your Spoiled Mama order, donating it to HPP is simple. Just contact us at Twitter, Facebookor Instagram (@thespoiledmama) and tell us you want your donation to go to the Prenatal Homeless Program.

We will gladly convert your Mama Bucks into an actual cash donation and send it directly to Mamas of HPP.

Donations of household items and baby essentials for Homeless Prenatal Program families

“I want to give more — Can I donate directly to HPP?”

That’s the spirit, Mom — and yes, you absolutely can. Because the Prenatal Homeless Program provides its services to at no cost to families, every donation makes a substantial difference.

Some of the ways you can make a difference:

Will you give your mom money to the Prenatal Homeless Program?

Look for donation coupons on randomly selected Spoiled Mama orders and join us as we #SpreadTheGood — one mom, one baby, and one family at a time.
