Many thanks to my friends at NOW Food for sponsoring this post. They have so many amazing products including mine favorite creatine, on their website. Use FITNESSISTA20 for 20% off and stock up on wardrobe essentials, clean beauty products, nutritional supplements, pet goodies and more.

Hello Hello! How are you; I hope you have a wonderful weekend! I’m coming in to share one of my favorite beauty DIYs: Turmeric Face Scrub.

Turmeric is a vibrant yellow spice that comes from the root of the Curcuma longa plant. It belongs to the ginger family and has been used for centuries in traditional Ayurvedic and Chinese herbalism for its functional properties.* One of the key compounds in turmeric is curcumin, which is known as a powerful free radical scavenger.* It also supports a balanced immune system system, a balanced response to environmental stressors and has neuroprotective properties.*

Beyond its traditional culinary uses, turmeric can be incorporated into your daily life in a variety of ways. You can find turmeric supplements in capsule or powder form, which can be added to smoothies, juices, soups, or even sprinkled over grilled vegetables or eggs. Golden milk is made by combining turmeric with warm milk and spices like ginger and cinnamon, and is a soothing and nourishing option. It’s one of my favorite ways to wind down for the day!

Benefits of turmeric for skin

Turmeric can also be used topically as a face scrub, which is what I’m sharing today! Because of its protective benefits against environmental stressors, turmeric can also help with skin benefits.*

**It is important to note that it is always a good idea to consult a healthcare professional before adding any new supplement or product to your routine, especially if you have underlying health conditions or are taking medication.***

How to make Turmeric Face Scrub

You can buy whole turmeric face scrubs, but they tend to be expensive and may contain ingredients you may not want to put on your skin. I’m a big fan of DIY beauty because you know exactly what goes into these products and you can customize them to your unique needs and preferences.

Ingredients for Turmeric Facial Scrub

I love homemade body and face scrubs, especially since I usually have all the ingredients on hand:

Coconut sugar: for gentle exfoliation

Almond oil (coconut oil, honey and olive oil work well too): for skin moisture and texture

Vitamin E: for nutrients and healing properties

Essential oils: for fragrance! Just add a few drops. They are completely optional

Turmeric: I love it in scrubs because it can help with discoloration, along with an antioxidant boost

Instructions

Step 1

To create a simple turmeric face scrub, mix 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup oil in a bowl. Add 1 dropper of vitamin E. Stir to combine.

Step 2

Add 1 capsule of turmeric (or 1/2 teaspoon) and a few drops of your favorite essential oil. (Be careful with citrus-based oils, as they can cause photosensitivity. If you’re sensitive to oils, you can always skip them for face scrubs and just use them for body exfoliation, or not at all.)

Step 3

Gently massage the scrub into your face, let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse off for a refreshed and glowing complexion. This is the same basic recipe I use for body scrubs.

The cute jar is from Amazon and I keep the jars of the homemade scrub in the fridge so they are cool and super refreshing when I use them!

I order all of my homemade skin care products (plus many of our favorite pantry staples, body care, pet care, and snacks) from NOW. They have a great selection and I know their products are responsibly sourced, thoroughly tested and have amazing prices. It is a brand we have loved and trusted for many years. You can also use my code FITNESSISTA20 for 20% off your order!

So tell me, friends: do you make your own skincare or beauty products at home? Any favorite recipes??

Be sure to check out these posts for more ways to use turmeric!
