Many AFPA students and graduates have incredible knowledge, real client wins and a passion to impact more people. What they don’t always have is a simple way to turn that value into something customers can use again and again, even outside of sessions. That’s where publishing can be powerful, not as a huge life goal, but as a practical way to support people, build credibility, and expand your impact.

AFPA Alumni Kim Logan, Gut Health Nutritionist and creator Gut Health Made Simple: Your Daily Trackerhe did just that. She turned her experience and training into a 30-day guided tracker designed to help readers identify patterns that affect their gut health and make more informed, sustainable choices. See how he brought the project to life, what the process was really like, and why creating your own resource might be more possible than you think.

Kim Logan is its founder Grammy Going Greena wellness business dedicated to making gut health and anti-inflammatory living feel simple, realistic and achievable. Through her YouTube channel Gut health made simpleshares science-backed education and practical lifestyle strategies to support people managing chronic inflammation and autoimmune-related challenges.

Gut Health Made Simple: Your Daily Tracker is one of her latest projects, a 30-day journal designed to help readers identify patterns that affect their gut health, with built-in tips and resources to support informed, sustainable wellness choices.

What kind of feedback have you received from people using the tracker?

Before publication, I offered a free PDF version of the tracker to friends, family, and colleagues for honest feedback. This resulted in 21 5-star reviews within weeks of publication. The overall feeling is Gut Health Made Simple: Your Daily Tracker it’s easy to use, an eye-opener and a game-changer for overall health.

The most meaningful result I’ve seen so far is from the client who inspired me to write the book. Although she has never experienced digestive or autoimmune issues, she has suffered from persistent anxiety and panic attacks for most of her life. In recent years, through stress and bad eating habits, she gained 50+ kilos. Since much of my social media is focused on food and its impact on gut health, she came to me looking for a “diet.” I explained that we would be working more through a sustainable lifestyle “upgrade” than a fad.

When I started collecting videos and free guides I created on stress, anti-inflammatory food choices, sleep management, motivation, movement, etc., I realized it would be beneficial to gather this information in one place along with regular self-assessments and daily tracking pages so people can identify triggers AND choices that work for themselves.

This particular client reported within the week that while she still had anxiety, she was able to manage it more effectively without having full blown panic attacks (indicating the gut-brain connection). Within a month, he had lost 11 kilos. She still sends me videos of her new recipes which often include prebiotic fiber and cultured probiotics.

How did completing the Gut Health Nutrition Specialist certificate shape how you approached this project?

Without this program, I would not have had the credibility to write and publish this book. My interest in gut health came from personal experience with an autoimmune disease. My doctor did not recommend that I make any dietary or lifestyle changes to manage the condition, so I did it myself after reading a book called Bowel control by Dr. Steven Gundry. Once I recognized the impact my gut health had on my condition, I wanted to understand the available science and research and somehow found AFPA! From there, I was able to learn more about what happened to me and started helping others.

What specific insights or frameworks from AFPA appeared directly in your book?

The book highlights the impact that diet, exercise, stress management and sleep priority have on the gut microbiome. These four aspects have been fundamental to the Gut Health Nutrition Specialist program and have given me a solid structure when working with/presenting to others.

How did you really like Amazon’s publishing process?

Initially, I was unaware that in order to self-publish on Amazon, I had to go through Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP Amazon) which required account setup. From there, I watched videos specific to the type of book I was publishing (low content due to watch pages). Here, I also learned about “bleed” and how it can affect the print. The process was fairly simple but required several man-hours. Since my book has tracking pages, I needed graphics, so I created the design in Canva with specific size parameters. I then downloaded the PDF and uploaded it to KDP Amazon.

At this point, I was guided to select a title, author(s), categories, keywords, print details, etc. After all of that was verified, I uploaded my content and was then given the option to create my cover through KDP or create my own. I chose to create and upload my own cover. I was able to start a preview and approve from there.

However, publication is only one part of the process. To be a successful author, you need to have a solid marketing plan.

How long did it realistically take from concept to publication?

I can tell you the exact time because it was an email I sent that inspired me to create the tracker! On 10/6/2025 I put together several of my YouTube videos along with some free guides for a client. I had sent the same information to a different customer the day before and also sent her a food diary from Amazon. I realized that giving clients food diaries wouldn’t be cost effective, and that’s when the idea of compiling the information along with 30 days of daily page tracking was born! Gut Health Made Simple: Your Daily Tracker published on 17/11/2025. The caveats to this answer are: I had already created the videos and free guides included in the book, so time was not included in the idea to publish, AND if I were to do it again, I would have spent more time on the cover and launch.

What was more difficult than expected? What was easier than expected?

I would say the process was more tedious than expected – meaning lots of little bits of the process and frustrations along the way. But the publish to Amazon option makes the process easier.

If someone is intimidated by self-publishing, what would you honestly say to them?

My honest answer is that the publishing part is nothing to be afraid of. It is the part of marketing that is difficult, humbling, requires deliberate effort, and probably requires a financial investment. That’s where I am right now.

YouTube videos

How does it feel to see your name in a book that people can buy, use and benefit from?

It’s a feeling of accomplishment because I know I was left out in the process of creating something that WILL really help people.

Many AFPA students dream of writing a book but never get started. What’s the biggest mindset shift that helped you move from “someday” to “done”?

For me, the change was that I have experienced and learned the science of something that can help others. Yes, I can potentially make money from book sales, but the value of what’s inside far exceeds the price of this book.

How does this book fit into your larger vision for your work?

Gut Health Made Simple: Your Daily Tracker it has several applications in my larger vision as a wellness coach. First, for anyone who purchases the book, there is an option to sign up for my weekly newsletter, “Gut Check with Grammy Going Green,” where I share tips, motivation, and practical ways to improve overall wellness. Through this newsletter, I will eventually promote an online course (which takes me much longer to produce than publishing the book). Additionally, once I start working more regularly with clients one-on-one, the book will serve as a framework (and be part of their client package). Lastly, since YouTube videos are included, I hope to increase my watch time and subscribers to my channel Gut Health Made SImple.

Anything else you want to share?

Yes! There are two ways to purchase Gut Health Made Simple: Your Daily Tracker. It is available on Amazon or as printable PDF on my website.

It’s a great resource for people interested in making sustainable upgrades to their wellness. However, it’s also a great tool for coaches, as it’s a tangible benefit for clients who can work together with their coaches’ guidance. I would love to hear feedback from anyone who decides to use this with their clients!
