Halloween is one of mine favorite holidays (right up there with Christmas and New York Fashion Week). It’s the perfect time to tune in to your ~inner witch~ or any other spooky persona you’ve been meaning to channel. And while it may seem like a kids’ vacation, it’s actually a great opportunity for couples to get creative and playful.

“Making fun memories together can lead to a closer relationship for couples because it gives them something to look back on and a positive lens through which to view each other,” said Suzannah Weiss, sexologist for bird and its author Subjectification: Becoming a sexual subjectsays FemmeFunn. “It can bring out your playful sides and give you a team feeling if you dress in matching suits,” adds Weiss.

So if you and your partner/s weren’t planning on doing anything this Halloween, you might want to think again. Not only can Halloween costumes provide some fun and silliness (and strengthen your bond), but they can also be sexy.

“Costumes can help you explore sides of yourself that you don’t normally explore, like your dark side, your silly side, or your sexy side, depending on what the costume is,” Weiss says, adding, “Because there is no other time of year where you can do this, it will leave a lasting impression on your mind.”

Are you ready to be inspired? We’ve rounded up five Halloween costume ideas for couples that are equal parts playful, hilarious, and sexy (in case you want to take things from the streets to the sheets).

Superheroes

Superhero costumes are easy to make and perfect for power couples who want to show off (or work on) their teamwork, communication skills and ability to support each other.

“Most of us have a superhero that turns us on, whether it’s Catwoman, Superman, Supergirl, Wonderwoman, Spiderman, Batman, Wolverine or Captain America,” says Weiss. “So dress up as someone else’s superhero crush and use your powers for good by acting out fantasy inspired by them — share an upside-down kiss as Spiderman and Mary Jane Watson, or experience Catwoman’s whip if that’s your thing, and you’ve we discussed consent and safety words!”

Guard and prisoner

On the other hand, you can channel a more illicit power dynamic. Being a guard and a prisoner can totally work for couples who enjoy a little suspense and diversion from their everyday lives.

“Go for a sexy leather outfit for her if she’s the bodyguard, or a well-tailored police outfit for him if he’s taking on that role,” says licensed sexologist and relationship therapist and writer at sex-positive magazine. Passionate Sofie Roos tells FemmeFunn. “Also, be sure to buy handcuffs…”

Cavemen

A caveman suit cannot look sexy, but according to Weiss, this sartorial choice can be a fun way to tap into your primal, uninhibited sides.

“Fun fact: people in the Paleolithic era were considered some of the most lewd,” says Weiss. “There is evidence that females regularly mate with several males at a time,” he adds. “It doesn’t suggest you have to have a bunch of caveman costumes, but they can help bring out your primal, naughty side, especially if you prefer a piece with minimal coverage, like a thong.”

Doctor and Nurse

The doctor-nurse combo is a classic Halloween costume — and for good reason. Although it may seem a bit cliche at first, don’t dismiss this classic suit just yet! There are many ways you can make this couple’s costume without the stereotypical “naughty nurse” vibes. (But if that’s what you want to do, go ahead!) For example, for someone with praise, the doctor might comment on how good the nurse is at “following orders.” Or, change the current dynamic and have the ‘doctor’ or ‘nurse’ tend to an injured ‘patient’. The key is to find a balance that is fun for both of you and celebrates your true interests and activities.

If you and your partner are seasoned kinksers, you could experiment with restraints (piggyback), sounds, or other medfet fantasies, like role-playing an emergency room visit or surgery. Again, be sure to set consent, boundaries, and safe words early to ensure you’re both comfortable with role-playing.

Candy

If you’re looking for something more subtle but still playful and flirty, a candy-themed couple outfit could be the way to go.

“Dress up as something delicious and then eat each other,” says Weiss. “You can dress up as your favorite candies, lollipops and other sweet things, and you can even wear edible underwear or bras underneath or change them out for a treat later that night.”

The bottom line? Have fun!

They literally exist thousands from couples halloween costume ideas. Think of this as a quick-start guide to easy costumes that you can build on to make your own. If you want to get a little more sinister, Roos recommends going as a nun and priest “where the sinful atmosphere is extremely hot.”

If you and your partner are on the sillier side, cabin costumes like characters from your favorite children’s shows or movie twins like Fred and Wilma or Morticia and Gomez can make for equally memorable costumes. Or, if pet play is your thing, a tail plug and some kitty ears could be a fun option at home for couples who prefer to stay in for the night.

Remember, have fun, stay safe and don’t be afraid to let your naughty side show.
