Minimalism and decluttering could be your path to salvation. In this post, let’s talk about how choosing a way through minimalism and absorption can affect your life.

We can search anything online and order any product and there is a need to introspect between need and want which we tend to ignore and this results in empty pockets, more stuff and little storage space in a house, more property than its use.

I’ve read a lot about decluttering because I love it stay organized. I make sure to donate or discard things if I buy things, not only to have space but also if I’m not using something that can be used by someone.

I had my first encounter with the real thing EXCLUSIVE process through a very famous Japanese technique KONMARIfounded by Marie Kondo, who is its author “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up”. It changed the way I looked at things in my house, I would question myself and my daughter – this sparks joy in our lives, will you need it after 6 months? Remember we had all this? if the answer is No, then you know.

We can start to rest from small things like our wardrobe, our kitchen storage, our office desks or if you are determined enough, maybe even the whole house.

Five Benefits of Minimalism and Restoration

  1. It helps you decide between what you really need and what you want. Start with your wardrobe, your drawers, your mailbox, your social media accounts, the toxic people in your life and write off in negativity.
  2. Minimalism and absorption are also very intrinsically linked, as there are certain things in our home that keep some negative memoriesyet they are all around us, which must be rejected immediately.
  3. Apart from negative things, we have some kinds of things that are very old holding deep feelingsmaybe from another generation, but we need to understand how important it is to hold on instead of letting go.
  4. It is said that if you have not used a certain product, fabric, electronic item or anything else for six months, then the chance is that you will never use it again. Yes, there are exceptions according to the winter and summer season requirements.
  5. Decluttering helps you to spark of joy in your home, in your place of residence but also in your relationships. It is the cleansing of the mental space.

The minimalist way

Now if you have a rough idea of what absorption looks like, let’s move on to understanding Minimalism. You can also watch a documentary on Minimalism which is inspired by the true story of two friends Joshua Fields Millburn & Ryan Nicodemus. They’ve helped over 20 million people live meaningful lives with less. For them, less is more.

It was a year ago when I started getting rid of things, especially clothes that were still in good condition, sheets, blankets, unused utensils and many other items. I don’t call it a donation, but yes, the things were in a very useful condition, so I voluntarily went to a nearby NGO and handed over three bags full of all the items. I felt lighter as if a weight had been lifted from the house. My closets could breathe, my bed storage was more spacious, and my kitchen was more organized.

You know the best part of minimalism and decluttering is; that you make room for new things when you discard the old, but this time only by measuring them through the analysis of need and want.

I love to recycle things and have transformed my sarees into dresses and long dresses. The one thing I couldn’t even think of getting rid of was BOOKS, I have over 150 books some very very old but my books are like my biggest possessions. I’ve never touched this area of my house, and as an old-school avid reader, I’m still not a fan of audiobooks, but yes, I was able to successfully apply the basic rule of MINIMALISM, less is more.

There is nothing wrong with inheriting material things for happiness, but the problem lies in the meaning we attach to them. Everything becomes materialistic and artificial. Less people more stuff, more devices, more gadgets, more financial responsibility and more stress.

How Decluttering and Minimalism Can Reduce Stress:

Trust me it can, and here’s how:

  1. When you have fewer options, you don’t waste time deciding what to wear, take the example of Facebook face Mark Zuckerberg. Appearing mostly in gray T-shirts, he said: “I really want to clean up my life to make it so that I have to make as few decisions as possible about anything other than how to best serve this community.”
  2. When you collect fewer things, you use them instead of just keeping them. Once you use them well, you make room for new items to replace them.
  3. The choice of minimization is not limited to material things but also to things that affect at the cellular level. Mentally or emotionally, something that could tap into our productivity.
  4. When you have less burden of obligations or freedom from debt, and toxic elements in life, you stay calm, focus on better things.
  5. Last but not least, it helps you stay in tune with your mind and body when you have less to think about.

I started with small things and found it very helpful, we have nothing to prove and nothing to explain to the world about our choices because most of the things we do in life are to meet the social standards we have to fit. Of course, you don’t have to give up your wardrobe for a set of gray t-shirts or live in isolation, but we can adopt some practical ways to start implementing minimalism and decluttering in your life.

Have a light and clutter free weekend 🙂

Much love and gratitude

Priyanka
