Preparation for your hike in Jacksonville, Fl

If you are used to working in the gym or lessons, the warehouse outside may feel intimidating – but it doesn’t have to be!

With a little planning, your time on the trail can be much more enjoyable. These tips can ensure that you feel prepared – and comfortable – as you make new paths on your gym trip.

Bring the basics

Even if the walk of your nature is on the shortest side, it is always a good idea to keep the basics with you in a backpack or fanny pack. For the often boggy climate of Jacksonville, you will want to bring:

  • A bottle of water (especially in the warmer months)
  • Sunscreen
  • A hat or cornice
  • Bugs

If you are ready for greater hiking, you will want to bring some first aid items only if someone at your party gets a tumble. In addition, quick snacks such as protein bars or trail mixture can help you give you the energy you will need to keep it moving!

Dress comfortably

Lightweight, breathable active garments will ensure that you can move freely along your selected trail and textiles of moisture can be particularly useful for the wet weather of Floridian.

As for footwear, you will want a shoe with solid handle and plenty of support. Hiking shoes are ideal for muddy conditions, while trail runners work well if you are looking to pick up the pace on more uniform ground.

Check the weather ahead of time

Make sure you check the forecasts before you start in nature. Florida’s weather can change in a penny and stormy weather can lead to spots or flooded paths.

Remember that winter and summer tend to be the most variable seasons, with heavy rates of rainfall and higher flash storms.

Read your local instructions

Some trails have specific rules (eg no dogs are allowed), while others may have input or parking fees. Others may be subject to closure or only offer entry during certain hours. To save potential frustrations, be sure to look for your local instructions in front of time.

If necessary take baby steps

Whether you are brand new on hiking or just relaxing back in motion after injury, the beauty of nature’s walks is that you can take them at your own pace. After all, hiking has nothing to do with speed (unless that is your goal). Instead, you are going to enjoy your environment, breathe fresh air and connect with your body and the largest world.

Remember: Even athletes have something to learn from moving slowly and carefully. It is a busy world, and if there is one thing nature reminds of gym lovers each Level, is that we should not always “press” on our goals. Sometimes, it makes us just as good to go slowly and enjoy the journey.
