From shaded forests to coastal canned, with plenty of freshwater swamp in the meantime, Jacksonville is an ideal place to explore on foot. Whether you are an experienced hiker, experimenting with outdoor exercise, or just looking for a peaceful getaway, this city offers plenty of opportunities to get off the beaten path.

And with this guide to Jacksonville’s hiking trails, you will quickly discover your new favorite place to work in the big countryside.

6 places for hiking in Jacksonville, Fl

One of Jacksonville’s biggest assets is that its trails are ideal for newcomers. You don’t have to be a backpacker or triathlete to sweat it while sinking into nature. Most trails have little lifting with plenty of space to walk.

Whether you are a student who wants to get off the network or a parent looking for an exit from your children, there is a Jacksonville hiking trail with your name in it. Our six choices below allow you to take it at your own pace, with the natural beauty of Florida as your setting.

#1 Tillie K. Fowler Blue Loop (for families/beginners)

The blue loop on Tillie K. Fowler Park is a hike for beginners that slides through tall trees and takes you to an observation tower overlooking the Ortega River. • Lifting – mainly flat
  • Estimated completion time – 19 minutes

While some parts of the trail are lined, the ground is mostly dirt road. Keep in mind that this path may take a little full on weekends, but it is still a fantastic, fun choice for children and families.

This Atlantic beach loop has a lot to offer for young hikers and vision. Along the way you can notice:

  • Mounds shell Timucuan
  • An abandoned coal
  • One overlook a salty swamp
  • The Tomb of the Allied Soldier

These sights make this path an excellent place to entertain children with a scanning hunt. As for the trail itself, the trail mainly has natural territory – pryer and sand – with some sidewalks to help access. This is not ideal for those who use wheelchairs or younger children who need a trolley.

The shaded, woody trail is mostly paved, with five -foot paths to give you your fellow travelers plenty of space. In addition, with many picnic and benches, you can make a whole day! Consider packing a lunch and enjoying a well -deserved break along the way.

  • Distance – 23.3 km.

Preparation for your hike in Jacksonville, Fl

If you are used to working in the gym or lessons, the warehouse outside may feel intimidating – but it doesn’t have to be!

With a little planning, your time on the trail can be much more enjoyable. These tips can ensure that you feel prepared – and comfortable – as you make new paths on your gym trip.

Bring the basics

Even if the walk of your nature is on the shortest side, it is always a good idea to keep the basics with you in a backpack or fanny pack. For the often boggy climate of Jacksonville, you will want to bring:

  • A bottle of water (especially in the warmer months)
  • Sunscreen
  • A hat or cornice
  • Bugs

If you are ready for greater hiking, you will want to bring some first aid items only if someone at your party gets a tumble. In addition, quick snacks such as protein bars or trail mixture can help you give you the energy you will need to keep it moving!

Dress comfortably

Lightweight, breathable active garments will ensure that you can move freely along your selected trail and textiles of moisture can be particularly useful for the wet weather of Floridian.

As for footwear, you will want a shoe with solid handle and plenty of support. Hiking shoes are ideal for muddy conditions, while trail runners work well if you are looking to pick up the pace on more uniform ground.

Check the weather ahead of time

Make sure you check the forecasts before you start in nature. Florida’s weather can change in a penny and stormy weather can lead to spots or flooded paths.

Remember that winter and summer tend to be the most variable seasons, with heavy rates of rainfall and higher flash storms.

Read your local instructions

Some trails have specific rules (eg no dogs are allowed), while others may have input or parking fees. Others may be subject to closure or only offer entry during certain hours. To save potential frustrations, be sure to look for your local instructions in front of time.

If necessary take baby steps

Whether you are brand new on hiking or just relaxing back in motion after injury, the beauty of nature’s walks is that you can take them at your own pace. After all, hiking has nothing to do with speed (unless that is your goal). Instead, you are going to enjoy your environment, breathe fresh air and connect with your body and the largest world.

Remember: Even athletes have something to learn from moving slowly and carefully. It is a busy world, and if there is one thing nature reminds of gym lovers each Level, is that we should not always “press” on our goals. Sometimes, it makes us just as good to go slowly and enjoy the journey.
